Obstacles In Improving Women’s Health

By | December 19, 2013

The consciousness of people regarding taking care and maintaining their body in a healthy condition has grown bigger these past few years. There are now a lot of exercising routines, dietary supplements and pills, different ways of dieting, and so on that are available everywhere to promote healthy lifestyles and to help people keep their body thin, fit, and healthy.

164 Womens Health

Women, especially mothers, however, may find it hard to put some time and effort for physical activities. There are many reasons why women, specifically mothers, do. For one, and is usually the main reason, is the lack of time. Women have usually a lot of responsibilities as well as burden in their hands. They have to continue going to work to keep their job, they have to take care of their children, and they also have to do some household chores, especially if they do not have housemaids in their homes. Usually the time that they have after their job is intended for their family, her children, and all the other responsibilities she has at home. She might find it hard to find time as well as motivation to actually spend some time to exercise and even some time for her own self.  Also because of fatigue these responsibilities give her, it is impossible for working mothers to actually put more effort in exercising. How can you even reserve some energy to exercise, if you are too tired from work and all the other things that you do? Another is that some women believe in some gender stereotypes which includes that women’s job usually revolves around household chores, child rearing, and just taking care of the whole family and their home. According to studies, these women who believe in such are usually among the people who do not spend time on exercising, and generally even for themselves. Even money can be a reason for some women’s lack of interest in exercising. Physical activities can usually be costly especially the facilities that are usually used.

In order to maintain a good health, women must make changes in their lives. They should overcome these reasons why they cannot exercise and have time for themselves as well. When it comes to lack of time, it might not hurt to spend just a few minutes, 15 to 20 per day perhaps to watch an exercise video and do some physical activities, right? Or why not, when going to the mall, walk if it is not that far. She can also compromise with the other family members when it comes to household responsibilities in order to also have time for herself. Also it does not have to be some physical activities in the gym; it can also be just a walk in the afternoon or some dancing exercise for a few minutes a day. Another is that, exercising does not have to take a lot of energy. In fact exercising regularly can help a person to cope up by giving her energy to do the things she usually do every day. Women must also change this thinking that women are bound to do domestic works.

Physical activities have a lot of benefits on women’s health. And in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and body, one must exercise and first change her attitude towards exercising.

Women’s Rights: Practicing Your Right As Women

By | November 29, 2013

098 Womens RightsWe all know and are about the discrimination between men and women. Before, men are usually favored and women are always the underdog. Women before are known to be low-profile and they are subjected to men. They are commonly treated as slave. They are less favored in everything. But as time goes by, there are people who have fight for women’s rights. There are leaders who believe that women should be treated right and equal. These are the times where the rights of women are empowered. They were given chance to prove themselves that they are capable to do other things aside from doing house chores. This is why there are women who become so persistent with their studies so they could prove themselves. Until these days where women have become leaders, influential, powerful, and better than what men could do. There are women who are more organized than men when it comes to doing their job, mentality, physically, socially, and even spiritually.

Women today are very lucky because they are now free to practice their rights and compete with men. But sad to say that there are still some discrimination that exists in some countries where women are still treated differently like they are commonly become a victim of sexual abuse like rape, prostitution, trafficking, and more. That is the fight for women’s rights up to this day is still going on because of these cases. Good for you if you live in a country where women are treated equally. But if you live somewhere where women are treated unequal, then you are unlucky. But you still have a choice to get out of that place and live somewhere where women are treated right and where women are allowed to practice their rights.

Nowadays, you can see that there are women who become CEO of big companies, women who become religious leaders, women who became President of the Country, and women who are allowed to work and treated well by their husbands. So, I would suggest that if you want to practice you rights as women, you need to get a degree. Become successful in the field that you want. If you have a degree, it will be your key to success and achieving your goals. If you are successful, you will get the respect of other people especially those people who discriminates you and doubt your abilities and skills.

3 Groups Of People Serving As Role Models For Today’s Young Girls

By | November 16, 2013

134 positive role models for todays young girlsWe have many transition periods in our lives. The most difficult of which is during puberty or what we call the growing years. It is the time wherein we can either make it or break it. We leave our youth and enter the complex world of adulthood. This is a very crucial stage for everyone but most especially to girls who are more vulnerable to the changes in their environment. During the growing years, they start to learn who they are and who they want to be in the future. To do this, they look at the people around them who they can pattern themselves into. That is why it is very important that there should be positive role models for today’s young girls who will guide them in choosing the right path in their lives. The following are the groups of people young girls usually look up to.

1. Parents

Parents play a very important role in how a child grows as an individual. Their actions and behavior can greatly affect that of their children for they are seen as idols in these young people’s eyes. They have the responsibility of teaching their young ones what is good and what is bad. The moral values that can shape children’s lives should be instilled by their parents in them. It is imperative then that parents promote good behavior and deeds among their children.

2. Celebrities

These days, girls are so fond of magazines, television and the internet. They go out with their friends to watch movies and talk about their favorite celebrities. They want to be like a particular celebrity when they grow up because she has the traits that they would like to have in the future. They imitate the person from head to toe, from the way she speaks to the way she dress. As public figures in which all of their actions can be seen by the larger population, celebrities should be extra careful in what they are allowing the public to see about themselves. They should serve as good role models for a lot of young girls want to follow their paths and may imitate their behavior even if this behavior is not appropriate anymore.

3. Authority Figures

Young girls also adapt the behavior of authority figures they have contact with in a regular basis. It can either be their teacher, relative, sports coach or a leader in their community. They can also pattern themselves to famous politicians that they like. That is why as much as possible these people should exemplify good manners and conduct when they are around young girls who idolize them and who may emulate them.

We should always keep in mind that there must be positive role models for today’s young girls in order for them to grow and become healthy and happy individuals in the future.

Who Are Your Role Models Today?

By | October 23, 2013

201 positive role models for todays young girlsIf someone asks you who is or who are you role models today, who would you answer? Definitely kids would answer their favorite fairytale princess character, their favorite singer or even their favorite teacher. Basically, positive role models for today’s young girls are the only people or individual whom they knew or whom they have an idea with. Young girls are too naïve to be able to determine the real measure of idolizing someone. The mere fact that Cinderella is pretty is good enough for them to think that they would also want to be like her when they grow up. Actresses on the television might be their inspiration for life. Each one of us has our own opinion with personages whom we consider as our role models. There are a lot of reasons and factors to be considered why some children or teenagers like Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato or Ariana Grande. We might not understand entirely how other young ladies look up to various celebrities and even copy the way they dress, act, talk and move. Not long ago, the “then” little girls who were adults now have different idols too. Some even look up to religious personages as their inspiration through life. The point is that, the person whom small kids and teenagers consider as role models also depends on the society they are in and the influences that these people give them. Some girls consider their mom as the best person in the world. Others see their teachers as the greatest being ever.

It is just sad however how young girls look up to people whom they refer to as cool but their ways and means of doing things are not cool but bad rather. Young girls must know the exact meaning of right and wrong for them to be able to decide whether their role models are really good models or not. But then, life is not just pure black or simply white. Sometimes, there are some things which lie between the two colors which make things more complicated. The matter rests on how these girls adhere to their moral values and standards in life. At such an early age, young girls must be taught well especially in today’s culture that everyone is free to do provocative and offensive things. Our young girls must grow up to be also a good example to the next generations. Therefore, we must teach them today on having the right role models to look up to instead of fake role models.

How Women Entered The World Of Politics

By | October 9, 2013

Women in patriarchal society were not recognized as leaders, thus their only role is to be a house wife. They are not given the right for education like men does.

168 women in politics

Men are the leaders. Men are the professionals. Men have the power and capability of leading the society while women are kept inside the home to take care of the family. It is no different from being slaves. Yes, it may seem too harsh but that is the closest definition for women’s role before.

As time pass by, roles of men and women changes as well. And who would have thought that women are now political leaders. They are even as great as men when it comes to leadership.

Thanks to those women who fight for women’s rights and gender equality. And women today are enjoying the freedom and rights that they have.

In 1848, at the Seneca Falls Convention a resolution calling for woman suffrage or right to vote was passed. It was organized by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. These two women devoted the fifty years of their life for the movement of suffrage. And although they never gain the right to vote, their works contributed a lot to the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920 giving women the right to vote.

Quoted from NDI or National Democratic Institute chairman, Madeleine K. Albright “Every country deserves to have the best possible leader and that means that women have to be given a chance to compete. If they’re never allowed to compete in the electoral process then the countries are really robbing themselves of a great deal of talent.”

Indeed women are potential leaders. Who knows better what’s best for the country than women who sees everything from the perspective of reality and not with unrealistic assumptions.

In the 20th century women empowerment became stronger, number of women in politics increased. It only shows that women are becoming competitive and conscious of their rights. Yes, gender discrimination still exists but instead of hiding, women welcome the challenge and proved men to be wrong.

According to a study of International Women’s Democracy Center last 2008, women are holding the 18 percent of parliamentary seats around the world. And that includes 13 women holding the highest position of their state.

This only proves that women are as capable as men. But this percentage is still small. In fact there are still countries where women are not given the same rights as men.

Women and men are equal and both should be given the same rights not only in politics but as well as in other fields of profession.

Workplace 101: Women’s Rights That You Should Know

By | September 20, 2013

Patriarchal societies predominantly ruled the world for ages. During those times, religious, social and cultural conventions bar women from joining and participating in the workplace. They were restricted by the reproductive role society has imposed upon them. It was only during the emergence of women organizations and feminist movements in the 20th Century that the importance of achieving women’s rights equal to that of men came to light.

089 womens rights in the work place

But as the world moves towards the 21st century, women are slowly gaining the same privileges and benefits that used to be exclusive to men. Many women of today’s generation are already engaging in various kinds of professions – like being engineers, truck drivers, teachers, lawyers and doctors. However, ideologies that are remnants of the past hundred years still contribute to acts of discrimination and abuse against women in the workplace. It is, therefore, crucial for women to be aware of their rights as workers and take a stand in mitigating these activities that violate her rights at work. Provided below are some basic women’s right in the workplace that you have to know:

Right To Work During Pregnancy

One’s boss has no right to fire, demote or forbid her from working during her pregnancy. You, having your own body autonomy, has the right to decide as to whether or not you should continue working while being pregnant. You also have the privilege to be able to breastfeed during work hours and apply for maternity leaves wit pay.

Right To Be Protected Against Unwanted Sexual Behaviors

Women also have the right to shield themselves from unwelcome sexual advances and other unpleasant sexual behaviour. Organizations and companies are required to protect and defend these rights of women against potential perpetrators.

Right To Be Paid Equally

Salary grades and wage equivalents should be equal all throughout the organization regardless of one’s sex. Women have the right to enjoy the same amount of work pay that men earn for the same position.

Right To Be Protected From Forms Of Employment Discrimination

There are certain cases in which recruiters or heads of Human Resource departments have discriminatory biases in hiring people. Employers must not disregard the applications of female employees from any vacant positions as long as they possess the qualifications and requirements needed for the job.

Awareness of the laws that protect women’s rights in the workplace is very important in defending oneself against all forms of bullying and discrimination. By knowing each and every right a woman has, one will be able to stand by her own ground once confronted with any of the scenarios given above. It is vital to be vigilant and critical in holding on to these rights

By | August 23, 2013

Because of the lifestyle that we have today, our health is being put at risk especially if we are exposed to harmful substances like alcoholic drinks, cigarettes or smoking, and drugs. But between male and female, when it comes to health concerns, female have more health concerns than male, maybe because of their gender, genes, and other factors. Later we will discuss the top 4 women’s health concerns today. These health concerns are all serious concerns that require serious medical attention. That’s why it’s advisable that women should have regular checkup with their doctor. They say that early detection can actually save your life. So, if you feel something unusual or weird, don’t hesitate to see your doctor right away. For your health security, I would also advise that you get your own health insurance. In case you don’t have cash in your pocket, you can always use your health card to get the right health services you need. Now, what are these top three women’s health concerns?

085 womens health conserns

Breast Cancer

One of the very common health concerns of women is breast cancer. This is very common in women and very rare with men. That’s why there is a self testing method that was taught to most women on how they would know if they are prone to develop breast cancer. The method is to lie on your back on your bed then raise your one hand touching your head, then your other hand would start to pat on their breast starting from their nipples going out in circular motion. Touching your breast using your two fingers and try to look for a lump, if you feel something that is unusual, go and see your doctor right away that could be a cyst which can turn to malignant tumor. But the good news is many have survived this kind of cancer. But the procedure may also affect your condition because it may require the removal of your breast to prevent the spread of cancer.

Depression

Since most women are very emotional, they are prone for depression. Many women ended up getting sick because of unmanaged depression.

Ovarian Cancer

Aside from breast cancer, another cancer that women are prone to have is ovarian cancer. That’s why to prevent having ovarian cancer a surgery is also recommended and the surgery procedure is called “TAHBSO” or Total Abdominal Hysterectomy and Bilateral Salpingo Oophorectomy.

Aside from these three, women are also prone to develop osteoporosis. That’s women should give more time to have their self checked to prevent unwanted diseases to develop. They should also start a healthy lifestyle.

Women In Government: Increasingly Becoming Popular

By | July 2, 2013

091 Women In GovernmentIn this new era, women in the government are becoming popular because of the fact that they were elected by people to sit in the government position. One of the reason that I have observe why women in government is increasing in numbers maybe because of the services that they rendered that most men in government have not given much attention. One of the characteristics of women that men don’t have is their passion to care and love their children and her family. The main role of men is to provide for the needs of the family and one of the major role of mothers is to take care of their children making sure that they grow up in good values and god-fearing. These traits of women have helped them fulfill their role as mother of the community where they serve. The passion to prioritize the needs of the people have put these women on top of the lists and for the record, women who serve in government have produced better result compared to men.

There are many countries in different parts of the world that were led by women and their country have become productive and their economy has increased. But of course, women in government are still struggling proving themselves that they can do what men can do. This is because of the tradition that has been practice in ancient times that women are just secondary to men and that they have no right to rule and lead. But because of the advancement of the technologies and freedom, women have proven their worth as an individual and also as a public servant. They have proven that they can do better than men that they can also achieve what men can achieve. The discrimination between men and women has been an argument for decades and even up to now there is inequality between these two genders.

But, with all those challenges that women have faced over time, this had not discourage them in fact it challenges them to do better and to be more successful with regards to education and other achievements. If you notice during election year, women who want to be involve in the government service and position keeps on increasing. Women have proven that they can do what men can do and most of all, they want to prove that they can do better and provide the needs and serve their people well.

How Can You Protect Women’s Rights?

By | May 16, 2013

095 Womens RightsBased on a population survey, there are more women than men. But, sad to say, there are more abused women. They are not given equal opportunities. Before, they don’t assume economic and political roles. They are left in the house and are not given freedom to do whatever they want. Most of the time, you see them doing household chores. They are not allowed to get formal education. If there are abused and a lot of them were not able to fight for their rights, fight for them. How will you protect women’s rights? Where will you start?

Before you do the job, know what women’s right are. This is important. How would you fight for something if you do not know what you are fighting for? You should know the legal basis and the various forms of violations. Each individual has its own right. Each is bound to be protected. If one act against women’s right, there is a penalty for it. In almost all nations, women’s enjoy their right for federal and state level, education, equal treatment, protection at home or at the workplace, etc. Find more so you are better knowledgeable of what those rights are.

Report to authorities in case you are sure that somebody is being abused at home or at the workplace. Do not hide what you know. If you aren’t sure of what to do, go to somebody you know you can ask help from. Do not report straight to the police or other authorities without verifying the information that you have. Your goal here is to help the abuse and give her a better life not to put her to shame. Help without expecting anything in return. Forget about danger. Her life is more in danger if you are not going to help her.

Support movements protecting women. There are local based organizations. Others are national and international based. If you can start your own group with the goal to protect females, do it.  For sure, there are willing sponsors. Get professional speakers, organize forums, reach out to communities, etc. You can also use the Internet. There, you can make a page, ask for suggestions or comments, post revealing statements, upload pictures, and more. Find a way.

Protect women, regardless of the economic status or educational attainment. The violations of women’s rights are among the many global issues. If we pretend that such crimes do not exist, what will happen? Yes, it is critical. But, there is no harm in trying.

Women In Government: Empowering Leaders

By | February 28, 2013

Women are not considered part of the government not until some took the courage that they can to do magnificent changes. Women everywhere are constantly facing the hardest challenges when it comes to governance. They have limited rights and participation. In underdeveloped countries which are in conflict with poverty, the challenges are even higher. Nevertheless, there are changes though it is still slow. The meaningful participation of women in the government is not a way to promote equality and fairness. In the present world, we like to promote empowerment. Despite of the unfair treatment, there are still famous leaders in the world who are women. Yes, there are still groups who are not favored in putting such women on positions. They could do nothing. They should not undermine women’s capabilities in becoming leaders. Rather, see the great impacts of these women in the society.

106 Women In GovernmentFemales have been at the front of politics fairly. They have successfully penetrated to the political world. Don’t you know that Egyptians are ruled by their queens as early as 3000 BC? After the Great War, some even became parliament members. They have been through tough challenges only to represent women in every part of the world. In history, the first woman Prime Minister of Sri Lanka successfully won her position in 1960. She is Sirimayo Bandaranaike. 14 years after, another significant proclamation happened in the country of Argentina wherein Isabel Peron was declared as the ever first woman democratically elected as the President. Bandaranaike and Peron are enough to tell us how powerful women. Their triumphs mean a lot to every woman on earth. In Sweden, majority of the ministers are women. In countries like Denmark and United Kingdom, people love their queens who are their country’s leaders. Now, who says that a woman has no place in the government?

By advancing on the participation, empowerment is lifted at all level of society. We are still looking forward to more accomplishments, funds, projects, partnerships, and opportunities that enhance women’s democratic and political roles. But, women leaders need to identify issues before they can start making changes. This task requires enough manpower and support. A leader alone can’t promote women empowerment. This is why females should take part in the process. It is a tough responsibility to become a good example to others. How much more if you target to make better changes on their lives? Gone were the days of slavery and ignorance. Gone were the days of insults. Gone were the days of limited rights and lack of freedom. Women now are more confident, smart, active, directed, strong, and empowered. They are not afraid to take risks. They can even confront with anyone even the most powerful man. Some have significant contributions.

This is the fitting time to announce to the world that women in government are extraordinary. They cause a lot of progress and inspire others. Their once ambitious fleet have change many lives. Continue empowerment lead to overall access to education and health services, freedom from oppression, and it opens the portal to full women participation not only in politics but in global economic and health issues. Based on the Platform for Action, equality, peace and development can be hardly achieved without their involvement especially in the decision-making. Yes, it takes many years before they have completely won their rewards. But, after those years, look at what women have come.

When they are set aside in the political world, their shares of experiences and perspectives are not considered. This is not humane. What if those experiences and perspectives are the answers we need? I can actually see how women make changes in the political arena. They are representing unheard voices and oppressed hearts.

This might be very simple tasks but surely your mother will greatly appreciate it and will appreciate you more because she knows that she can now rely on you when it comes to doing house chores. This can lessen the stress from your mother.

Do Good In Your Studies

If you are still studying, the only thing that most mothers want from their kids is to give them good grades from school. By giving your mother good grades, it will make them realize that they are not wasting their time, effort, and money from sending you to school. Giving them good grades can make them happy, and if they are happy it reduces the stress that they have. So, if you want to make your parents happy and proud, do your best in school and try to excel in everything that you do.

Stay Away From Trouble

Another way to lessen your mother’s stress is you stay away from any trouble. If you are involved in any trouble, it can add up to the problems of your mother and that could trigger her stress. If your mother is stressed, she cannot think very well and cannot function very well. So, as much as possible, stay away from trouble and that could lessen the stress.

Cook For Her

You can also surprise your mother. You can cook for her. Since you were a child, she’s the one who’s doing all the cooking. She is cooking all your favorite foods. Now is the time to return the favor to her. You can surprise her with breakfast in bed. I’m pretty sure that she will be touch with that simple act. Try to cook the food that you know. You can cook egg, bacon, and toast bread for her, then make her a cup of coffee. You will see that big mile in your moms face and in her eyes is the gratitude of what you did for her. This maybe simple for you but for your mom it is already a big thing.
